"Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body "

General Conclusion

To conclude, I can say that after doing this portfolio I realized that I had learned many things in terms of writing. With the time I’m able to perceive a breakthrough in my knowledge and the manner in which I write. Now I am able to differentiate between a brainstorming and the first draft. I could also learn the rules of punctuation and how to identify the main idea of a text. I think that now I can write a paragraph or anything I want with greater security and quicker following each of the steps to perform a good writing.

Personally, I always liked more reading than writing, but on this subject I realized that I didn’t write only by the fact that I didn’t know how to do it well, but now that I know how to do it I hope that I can write more and more so I can practice and improve my writing.

Misunderstandings

After we read the text "Misunderstandings", we analized and found all the uses punctuation, so I could learn how to use them and when. I also realized that there are more than one uses of comma.

Topic Sentence: Tell us tells us the main idea. It is usually the first sentence in a paragraph.

Supporting Sentences: Helps the reader understand the main idea by giving more information about it.

Here it is an activity that we did in clases about the topic sentence and supporting sentences:

I think that this activity that I did in class was really interesting, because I could learn more about the parts of a paragraph, how we can recognize them and how they can help us to find the main idea of a certain paragraph.

Brainstorming V/S First Draft

The holiday in the year that I like is Christmas.
Brainstorming:
-I go to my grandma's house in Arica
-I love Christmas
-I eat delicious food
-I recieve many gifts
-I don't have to go to the university
-Everybody  is happy
-I see all my cousins

Draft:

I can say that I learned to order my ideas and everything that involves the writing process. Also I could leaRn and clarify my doubts about the difference between brainstorming and the first draft, because they are obviously not the same and have different functions.

Oktapodi

Once upon a time there were two octopus, a female with pink skin and a male with orange skin, living in a fish tank that was in a fish shop located in Greece. While they were cuddling each other, a man took the pink octopus out of the fish tank, separating her from the orange one.  Then the man weighed her, put her in a cooler and after that he entered to his truck.  When the orange octopus saw that man, he was in shock and started to imagine a cook killing his soul mate, so he became brave and jumped out of the fish tank and he started to walk very fast to reach the truck. When he reached it, he tried to open the cooler until the man who was driving saw the orange octopus, so they started a fight and the man lost the control of the truck. The pink octopus with the intention of stop the fight activated the handbrake of the truck and when the car stopped both of the octopuses jumped out of the truck and they tried to escape by jumping from pool to pool while the man was still chasing them from his truck.  Finally, the truck and the man fell into the sea and the octopuses were free for a while, until a Seagull took the Octopus and fly away. The pink octopus felt sad, because her only love had gone.

This paragraph was difficult to write, because I had to write every single detail and narrate everything that happened in the video, so I had to see it more than once, but it wasn’t boring for me to do it, because I really liked the video.

My favorite place to stay

No matter if I am happy or sad, my favorite place to stay is the beach, because it always makes me feel good. I enjoy going to the beach not only to swim, I also prefer to go to the beach to walk on the sand or to have a picnic with my friends and chill out for a while. I love it because I can go any time I want, no matter the season or if it is cloudy or sunny. I enjoy doing many things there like reading on the sand and listen the sound of the waves. At night I usually do exercises or run, because it is more fresh and there is not sunlight so I can run more, because there aren’t many people so it’s easier for me.

I took a little more time to write this paragraph, because it was difficult to me to decide which was my favorite place where I liked to be. But after deciding it, it was easier to write and give a description and why I like it so much.

My Favorite person in the world

My mother is my favorite person in the world, because she is extremely affectionate, so she hugs me all the time and always tells me how much she loves me. She is calm, but when something annoys her, she becomes hardly nice. She is very clever, or seems to be, because she knows almost everything I ask her. She is honest, because she doesn’t know how to lie. My mother is funny and she is always trying to make people laugh. Physically, she is short and plump, but that makes her even cuter.  She is a middle aged woman who knows what to do and where to go. She has narrow and dark eyes that are always looking at me with love. She wears glasses, but that doesn’t mean that she can’t see all the bad things I do. She has short curly dark hair, and a very nice olive skin.

This paragraph of description wasn't difficult to write, because I wrote about my mother and I know her very well, so it was very easy and I wrote more relaxed.

Although in some moments, it was something more emotional because some memories came to me.

I'm an Early Bird

This text was one of my first paragraphs that I write in class, where I could incorporate my knowledge that I acquired on the brainstorming method. First I made a list of my ideas and then I wrote everything in a tidier way. After the teacher gave me back the correction of my paragraph, I realized that I had some  grammar mistakes that I had to correct.

The Writing Process

As we learned in classes, there are steps that good writers follow to write a paragraph or short compositions.
If we want to write a good paragraph we may use the following steps.

1.- Get Ideas

Pre- writing: An activity we do before we start writing

Brainstorming: Process for generating creative ideas, where you think about a topic and write down as many ideas as possible in a list.

2.- Organize Ideas

First Draft: The first time you write a paragraph, in which you write interesting ideas without worrying about mistakes.

3.- Write
4.-Revise
5.- Edit (check grammar)

Introduction

Dear Reader! Welcome again!

In this space of my blog, I’ll show you my portfolio, which shows a written process of all the texts, activities and everything I have learned during the second semester of the Reading and Composition class.

After each one of the points that I will talk about, I will write a little reflection on what I could correct or improve about the topic.

I hope you enjoy reading my writings, as I enjoyed writing them.
